There was a bit of excitement over the weekend as I over a story that I also tweeted about regarding Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun’s article suggesting that Canucks first round draft pick Jordan Schroeder may be leaving his NCAA team, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, and joining the Moose. This would follow rumors from earlier in the season that Mike Gillis was trying to get Jordan Schroeder to turn pro and sign with the Canucks. Given how much Gillis wants to be ‘hands on’ with player development, I can’t blame him for wanting to do so. Schroeder, to his credit, has remained interested in staying with the Gophers.

Mike Gillis didn’t go hog wild on the trade deadline, as he continued to play a conservative game with his picks and prospects. While his contemporaries were doling out 2nd rounders like candy, Gillis, who didn’t have a 2nd rounder in this year’s draft, decided to be a little more creative with his wheeling and dealing, heading over to the bargain bins of the various NHL teams.

Gone are Mathieu Schneider, PC Labrie and a 3rd round draft pick.

Coming in are Yan Stastny, Andrew Alberts, Sean Zimmerman and a potential 6th rounder.

Man, what an intense looking bunch there. Wellwood especially. I kid, I kid. Anyway, here’s a brief recap of the Canucks week that was, although it’s a little light on some details.

More off-ice shenangians, injuries and some games to recap all going on this past week with the Canucks. I don’t know about you, but my week was a busy one. But you’re not here to read about my dreary life, you’re here for the Canucks Week That Was!

It’s Team Canada night and the Moose are looking to avenge themselves after last night’s 7-2 decimation which saw Cory Schneider get chased and Desbiens get beaten like a pinata. Can the Moose do any better tonight? Let’s find out!

The announcer for this game is going about a mile a minute here, not stopping for anything. Kind of like it, as his delivery makes for the game seeming as though it’s going at a frantic pace, trying to cram as many tidbits about players in as possible as the game goes along.

The title is a reference to the parking lot at the Abbotsford rink, apparently things are a little hairy as everyone’s in to check out the Baby Canucks. Twitter and radio was rife with complaints, so there ya go.

What a huge week for Alex Burrows and the Canucks! Although it ended on a sour note, the Canucks continued their solid play to start the New Year. Plenty to go over, so no mucking around. Let’s take a look at the Canucks Week That Was.

Okay, so I’ve got my MANLY green tea and honey, I got HNIC up on the telly on mute and everything seems to be working fine. Not missing the first period this time around.

WAUGH and Walsky are both scratched. Can’t blame Walsky as no matter how much razzle dazzle you’re showing, it doesn’t matter if you can’t produce on the scoresheet. Sucks that horrible doody head Mathieu Schneider is forcing WAUGH to sit.

First Period

(Thanks to technical difficulties, I’ve missed the first 18 minutes of the first. OOPS. Score’s nothing nothing, though, so it looks like I didn’t miss much of anything.)

Mathieu Schneider in #24. He looks good wearing the antlers.

Penalty to the Hershey Bears, Moose going onto the man advantage, their first of the game. Bears PK is #1, though, so the Canucks look like they’ve got their work cut out for them.
